EDITORIAL STANDARDS / THE RULES WE WRITE UNDER

The rules.
Written down.

These are here so you can hold us to them, and so that the absence of the usual filler reads as deliberate rather than accidental.

Sources

Every factual value that is not arithmetic is traceable to a published page, and that page is listed on the site. A figure is only accepted once its exact wording has been matched against the captured page and that wording contains the number. If we cannot find a real source for a number, the number does not go on the page.

We do not fabricate URLs, publication dates or document references.

Scope before averaging

Two figures that share a unit do not necessarily measure the same thing. A rate per square foot of patched drywall and a rate per square foot of wall differ by a factor of twenty. We check what the denominator actually is before using a rate, and we reject sources whose scope does not match, rather than averaging them into the others. The sources in use are listed on the methodology page.

Authorship

RestoreWorth does not put a fake expert, inspector, engineer or "reviewed by" credential on its pages. Not reviewed by a restoration professional. Every published figure is checked against the page it cites; the way they are combined is RestoreWorth’s own, and unreviewed. That is stated on every result.

Assumptions

Anything we chose ourselves is marked ASSUMPTION where it appears, and is never presented as published data. A coefficient with no source behind it is identified as ours.

Ranges

A low and a high are the bounds the publisher quoted; where its high end is open (a “+” after the figure), the row says so and its high figure can be exceeded. They are not a statistical confidence interval, and we do not describe them as one.

What we do not publish

No testimonials, no case studies, no ratings, no customer counts, no "as seen in", no before-and-after photographs of other people's homes. None of it could be verified, so none of it is here.

Corrections

If a figure here is wrong, or a source has moved or changed, write to contact@restoreworth.com. Corrections are made at the source, and the calculators are rebuilt from it.
